Just seen a note on web saying the run up to Mayday BH will be much colder than usual, particularly the north of the UK but also colder than we have seen in the South too

Might hold development of colonies up somewhat - don't go doing splits newbeeks !! Make sure your colonies have stores. Also high winds so batten down those hatches again !!

I am finding netweather to be pretty accurate for here the Scottish Borders and yes they are saying the same and into the first week of May.

Today was 16 here and the next 14 days are mostly below 10 so no not going to panic about supering even though I have hives now on 12 frames of brood and some serious hatching about to happen.

What???...I have had the warmer weather yet...and so any new cold weather will just be a continuation of the older cold weather!

It's not actually cold out, but spitting a little, windy and with huge stormy clouds overhead. Not a day for inspecting.

There are strawberries in flower on the allotment though!

Thanks for ythe warning. This has shaped my plans for the coming week.

I wonder how many colonies are sitting on ripe QCs or virgin queens waiting for the first hot day. In the SE there has been a decent percentage of colonies which have shown preparations after the warm spell earlier on.

The first properly warm day after this cold snap may be rather lively!

Went through 9 hives today and only found 1 making preparations for swarming. Although I am on the south coast the nights have been cold lately and I honestly expected a lot more qc's and cups. Give them time and they will make up for any cold weather!

Be nice to have a spell of cold weather...the heat wave has gone on for long enough...would be good to have some rain as well.

Snow this am..

Ground frost in W Oxfordshire this morning...sun currently out, but rain forecast later - temps going to struggle to make it into double figures and next couple of days not looking great either.

Forecast looks much better next week - but cold here for a few days yet. Hoping it's warm enough on Sat to get in my biggest hive and check for swarm preps, and possibly do a pre-emptive vertical split. Not been able to inspect for 8 days now - let's hope they don't up and off in any short warm period before I get chance to sort them...

Could still do with some rain though - thunderstorm last night circled round us as passed by with none of the wet stuff.

Alternating between sunshine and hail/sleet here. There are a few brave bees venturing out but most have more sense and stay inside. I've just given some thin syrup to the swarm I collected on Saturday as they won't have stores and they need to draw comb.
