Having read this thread and thinking that rearing some queens next year would be a good idea, I have decided to have a try at making my own incubator.
Just one question for the experts, how accurate does the temperature control need to be, is + or - 1c ok or does it need to be better controlled than that?
I will post pictures as the project progresses (or not!)

you can get everything you need to make a small polybox incubator off ebay - you can even buy them made up for around £30 all in. PM me if you need further details/pics.

they work perfectly adequately for poultry eggs (we've done hundreds this year) and keep fairly even temperature if located in a room with stable temp. as good as expensive incubators - only hassle is turning the eggs manually.

will be perfect for queen cells.

oh - and easy to connect to a battery for transport too.

Don't forget the correct humdity is just as important as temperature

Why do you need an incubator when the bees can do it for you for free?

Gadgeting is all very well but it has to have a point, and to be honest when I let the bees look after matters for me it goes better.
