Ive had a phone call off a friend tonight, his parents have bees going through a gap on the side of a drainage pipe on the first floor...pretty sure they are only in the cavity and have not gone under the floor boards. They think they have been there for a couple of years, and ignored them because of not alot of activity but this year the numbers have noticibly increased...

They have spoke to a "pest man" who has quoted over £1000 to remove the bricks and ""rescue the hive'x which they cannot afford...

What options are there if I could help? Can they be drawn out and how?

Thanks

FIRST .. Make sure they are honey bees.... nine out of ten times bees in cavity walls are Bombus Hypnorum - Tree bumbles not honey bees. If they are bumbles they will be gone by the end of August and you can plug the hole they are using preventing a re-occurrence next year.

If they are honey bees .. yes, there are trap outs that you can construct but you are not going to get the queen out with these methods and the colony will be doomed unless you can 'rescue' the bees you trap and give them a new home and a new queen.

and here's how it's done:

There are other variations but same sort of principle. Real pain in the proverbial - keep your fingers crossed that they are bumbles !
