Does anyone on here use a building frame, and if so how useful do they find it in limiting hive opening ?
Hi Happyculteur, what is the French word? I am guessing that you are referring to some kind of entrance reducer.
(Reducteur d’entree?)
Hello. No, it's called a cadre temoin. Basically it's a frame that can fit in a cutout in the back wall or inside the hive at the edge of the brood nest. By taking it out regularly without disturbing the rest of the hive you can read from it what is going on in the hive.Hi Happyculteur, what is the French word? So a floor under the open mesh floor?Hello. No, it's called a cadre temoin. Basically it's a frame that can fit in a cutout in the back wall or inside the hive at the edge of the brood nest. It's what we call a dummy board. They are usually located against the end wall to make it easier to get the first frame out without rolling bees. I've never used one at the edge of the brood nest - interesting.Hello. No, it's called a cadre temoin. No .. I've explored most of the wacky ideas I've come across and I've never seen one either ... plenty of images in a google image search:Never even heard of it.
Yes, more like this Google search. It will tell you that the colony's building of frames has reached the edge of the hive - but it won't tell you anything else about the condition of the colony. So a bit more than just a window. ...
- but it won't tell you anything else about the condition of the colony.
The end frame of a hive is the last place you'd see swarm preparations.I have read that you can follow swarming preparions as well.
Yes, but when the frame is perpendicular to the others ? Anyway the fact that you've never heard of it........................Partly bullshit or total bullshit? The end frame of a hive is the last place you'd see swarm preparations.

But it’s outside the brood nest never mind what orientation it hasYes, but when the frame is perpendicular to the others ?
