I’ve been looking for a cheap solution.
Found this laptop stand on Amazon. Works great. You can change the tilt angle and overall feels very sturdy (rated for 15kg max, so perfect for when the bucket level gets low)

Of course you can make a stand, but this is an easy solution, foldable and ready made. Cost £6.99, delivered.

If a wooden spoon works for you, great. For me, I needed a sturdy solution, one I can get the valve beyond the countertop edge.
That's simple - make a box for the bucket to sit on so that your jar can just be placed beneath the valve leaving you with two hands free
 
As said above, sure there are lots of ways…
