Good memories of helping Brother Adam when I was at Buckfast in 1969 for some trainee monking. Helping with the bees was one of my varied tasks when the Abbey had a working farm, pottery, stained glass and of course the Bucky wine. The early "bee" mornings had a compensation - fresh warm bread with honey in the kitchens before dawn. Keeping bees has been a now realised lifelong ambition after being at Buckfast. Oh, not forgetting the many strings. Benedictine habits and a veil were not the best protection when bees from 40 hives were released in a strange place.
