Found this on YouTube - A fascinating insight to the world of bee keeping at Buckfast Abbey and Brother Adams search for the perfect bee.

IIRC it's split into 4 utube clips that link together. Excellent stuff, but not all will agree with his demise of the native black bee...Loved the African stuff with the bees in hollow tree trunks.

Good memories of helping Brother Adam when I was at Buckfast in 1969 for some trainee monking. Helping with the bees was one of my varied tasks when the Abbey had a working farm, pottery, stained glass and of course the Bucky wine. The early "bee" mornings had a compensation - fresh warm bread with honey in the kitchens before dawn. Keeping bees has been a now realised lifelong ambition after being at Buckfast. Oh, not forgetting the many strings. Benedictine habits and a veil were not the best protection when bees from 40 hives were released in a strange place.
