One of my hives a Maismore ,National Polly is presently on brood and half and i wish to convert to double brood. Is it just a case of adding a brood box under the existing one with foundation and /or mixing with existing drawn shallows .Or just foundation ,as i have no drawn deep frames.Thanks.

Either would work but if the shallows are already laid up with brood Id be inclined to keep the laid frames and alternate with the deeps and work them out throughout the season.

Thank you ,will be doing inspection today and take it from there.

If it was me I would simply add the new brood underneath placing a frame of sealed brood into the centre to encourage them down. You can the put the old brood back on top of the new box followed by the super if you ensure the queen is in the old brood you can slide a queen excluder between the super and old brood. You don’t need to mix in the shallows it’s just a pain. Give it at least 1 or 2 inspections and you can rearrange the lower broods if you want and even shake the bees off the shallow box then to remove some of the drones, some will always get stuck in the excluder.

What about confirming the Queen is in the original brood box (on the bottom) and using a clearer board between the super and the new Brood box?

Why would they do that the super has brood and will stay on the hive as a honey super i imagine.
