Manuka Honey

Manuka Honey is from the Tea Tree plant, see: wikipedia for "Manuka Honey" (I can't post links because I'm a newbie:rules:)

Tea tree oil and ointments are used widely as treatments for wounds and infections and so Manuka Honey is probably just another form of delivery with the added advantage that all honeys have in such treatments (never tried it myself though).

The biggest issue for me is origin and purity. I hate getting ripped off. Section 4 in the wiki entry says "In the wake of the high premium paid for mānuka honey, the majority of product now labelled as such worldwide is counterfeit or adulterated."

I probably wouldn't buy Manuka again but I might try adding a few drops of essential oil of Tea Tree to my own honey (for home consumption only).

Some European beekeepers produce a honey with lots of propolis mixed in - also a strong flavour - and this too is reputed to have enhanced medicinal qualities. Tastes a bit like Retsina wine. It is definitely an acquired taste but so is dandelion or horse-chestnut honey.
