is it ok to use this method only one of my hives is a little light but it does not matter how i position the crown board i cant get the feed hole over the cluster :hairpull:

I use the crown board method, but check that the bees can get to it.

Starving bees in a small cluster tend to sit tight in my experience. So they can starve while there are still plenty of stores elsewhere in the hive. If I suspect that this is the case I slice the fondant so I can slip if down between the frames wherever they are in the hive - and make sure that I keep on slipping more to them.

I have one lot of recidivists who are sitting on the OMF right at the front of the hive - took a while to find them since I thought they had all died! They got the sliced fondant treatment and all came out to express their thanks in the usual fashion.
