Had my first go at making candles from saved wax using moulds, Some of my candles split whilst cooling. Could that be because the room temp was less than the ideal 70 degrees F?

Even with silicone spray it was difficult to remove candle from polycarbonate mould. Had to run it under hot tap and struggle with it. Any tips?

Any other advice? Even details of a good book which specialises in Beeswax candles (not soya etc) would be helpful.

Thanks.

When i have done them, I put the freshly poured mould in hot water and let it cool slowly with the water.....no cracking at all...

I've had candles spilt so now do only tea lights from my own wax and rolled candles from T when they have a sale.
Victor Meldrew has posted pictures of a magnificent candle he made...perhaps PM him?

put them in the freezer for a while to get them out.

Never had candles in the Thorne's TS mould split whilst cooling but have had teacup ones split, might be because they don't adhere to side of TS mould so can shrink uniformly???

Thanks for the replies.
Clever idea HM honey. Will give the hot water a go next time.
davnig. In put a candle in the fridge which did not help unmoulding at all, how long in freezer? Does this damage the mould? Btw the candle I made in a mug was one that did not split.

This feels like I am learning chemistry. (which I never did).

must admit, only done freezer with glass, metal and plastic, never polycarb. Usually about 15-30 min is enough.

There is a release spray you can buy but it's not cheap

i smear the inside of the former with a little olive oil
works well

Yes I used the silicone release spray but still had a struggle. Will put on more spray next time. Might try the olive oil too now I've done my online shop.

Washing up liquid , just a tad mind, well rubbed in!
