About 2/3 of our hives were really busy today in strong winds.
The others (partially shaded) had a staycation - think I need to remove the dead tree causing the partial shade.

I would leave the dead tree. Fantastic resource for over wintering inspects and bugs plus a fantastic habitat throughout the year.

Don't for get bees are a woodland insect so should be well able to survive any tine of the year in the shade sorry I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree except that the tree has branches falling down and there’s not much of it left. The final branch will fall on two of the hives. We have tons of other trees very close by and all sorts of places for various pollinators.
