Currently in Charleston, South Carolina. Yesterday had a tour around the Boone Hall Plantation. A old cotton plantation now turning its attention to more conventional produce such as strawberries, melons, peppers, tomatoes, tourists etc. the area is very productive with blossom everywhere.
On a tour of the plantation we came upon a dozen or so hives. Disappointingly there were no bees in any of them. The tour guide says that they just don't produce any honey.
Very surprising to me as I would have longed for such an environment to place my hives. Temp was 29 degrees.
I did notice they were using plastic frames with plastic foundation.
