I'm sorry to all for being snagged in by JBG's aggressive snipe at the OP on this salt matter, and for replying off thread as I did.

I'm new to this forum, but I finally saw red yesterday after seeing every recent post that JBG'S seemed to have reply to which was simply outright malicious against some genuine questions and answers. I just sometimes think many of us have learned this bee stuff ( and still do continue to learn ) and simple answers to all types of simple questions are all that is needed sometimes - not malicious snipes like some do.

I'll make sure I say hello to Wally tomorrow evening from you all when I see him at our club meet.

I appologuise snd that's my last off thread bit I promise.

No need to apologise, it's easy to be drawn in. :)

:iagree: No need to apologise JBG has had the ban coming for some time. The moderators have been very tolerant by careful editing and removal of offending posts.

Keep posting.

Mike

Why do we now have @ symbols in the forum when referring to a person? As for the 'ignore' button - I never use it. I simply ignore what I find tedious and move on. I guess many other people do the same.

It gives a notification along the lines of "TryingToLetThemBee mentioned you..." etc. similar to when someone quotes you. Like if I want to say to @icanhopit that the trickle hose idea is fantastic thank you without quoting another post. Oh and great joke too :). I have no idea how to deal with the space in your handle but maybe sombody knows.

but what you don't seem to understand JDG is that starting a post with a personal comments like the following does nothing to support the logical arguments about the facts.

You might want to read this? ...
Now you have me off ignore, again, ...

If personal pronouns are avoided, then posts will concentrate on the topic being discussed. Isn't that preferable?

To illustrate, I could have written that as:
If YOU stop using personal pronouns, then YOUR posts will concentrate on the topic WE are discussing.
Can you see how much more aggressive that comes across?

Great advice but it's going to be a couple of weeks before he can read it ...Banned for using personal pronouns !! And some other ones I think as well !

What does the ban mean? Is it that a member cannot read comments and contribute or is it a total ban where even the posts cannot be seen?

Could Admin or Hivemaker please clarify.

Mike

I'll save them the trouble as I'm an old lag ... You get a message that says the forum is unavailable and you can't either see the forum posts, post anything, receive or send PM's. Works on all sorts of levels so you can't get around it -I tried ! Bit like solitary confinement - in JBG's case for his own good !!

an idea but it gets complicated to implement anything like this to work automatically without causing further grief.

What's to stop someone quickly registering 10 usernames, then using each to ignore someone?
Or having 10 "idle" usernames added over a period of time to avoid checks on things like post counts or length of membership?

I see this sort of shenanigans all the time on other forums,
there's no substitute for a [Report] button and an even handed moderator.

I think if someone took things to that stage they need help! :)

Let's hope the unpleasantness in this thread hasn't driven Karsal away.

Is all this really necessary? I just spent a minute reading through all six pages. Regret it now. A lot of petty squabling, over a teaspoon of salt in a gallon of water?

Bees do not need any added salt. They get all necessary nutrients from pollen and from normal water sources.

If you read scientific level papers about honeybee nutrition and pollen patty, no paper mention salt.

It wasnt even that anybody said that bees needed salt....just that they seemed to prefer the water that had a miniscule amount of salt added to it...

They do not prefer. That prefer thing is a myth.
I have made several experiments, and I have not seen any prefering

Best results I have got when I have put swagnum moss in a container and the container in a sunny spot.

Yes, old farts have spoken over decades about salt in water. But when you look those drinking places, there are not many bees there.
