A professional is a member of a vocation founded upon specialised educational training
The word professional traditionally means a person who has obtained a "degree" in a professional field. The term professional is used more generally to denote a white collar working person, or a person who performs commercially in a field typically reserved for hobbyists or amateurs. Excellent manual/practical and literary skills in relation to profession. Participating for gain or livelihood in an activity or field of endeavor often engaged in by amateurs or having a particular profession as a permanent career engaged in by persons receiving financial return. Appropriate treatment of relationships with colleagues. Special respect should be demonstrated to special people and interns. An example must be set to perpetuate the attitude of one's business without doing it harm. professional is an expert who is master in a specific field.
I think we all aspire to this or achieve most of it or do most of it... therefore loosely as a prefessional to a larger bunch of same, believe in yourselves and do the best you can... and behave the same, TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!! nah shurup about seporate this and that, I want a place I can come to for help and advice, comfort and joy and to be able to be of same to others, be told off when I need it, picked up when I need it and to do same... in one place without hunting further, I dont do hunting (unless for other hobbies where I hunt for items (or outside for little furry monster who dont come in when called...)

Sorry but a Desperate Dan would be filled with Dundonians. ;)

You are right though Pete, most on here would be a bit bamboozled by the Bee Farmers. On saying that though I was lucky enough to have a master mentor me, and some of his tricks I still pass on.

I can see though the virtue of a "more experienced" section. A zone where at the least the phrase test frame don't bring out a chorus of "What's that?"

PH

Isn't that another way of saying we should have a beginners section? and wasn't that one done to death a few weeks ago, with (as near as one gets to) a concensus against it? I think it was felt that the fact we are all in together is one of the great strengths of this forum compared with some others. Although it would be nice if some people would read a book, or use the search button, occasionally.

There are not so many professional beekeepers, who would devote part of their precious time for chating. They simply don't have time for this. The labor is over 12 hours a day/7 days at week. You work with the bees till dark and then keep doing something else that MUST be done before tommorow. You are always short of time. And there is always not enough time for everything.

Separate section? Why? We would be the only ones who will write there after all.
If someone feel himself discriminated, underestimated or unappreciated, i think no one would mind to be provided a separate section for him. I'm just joking.

Hmmmm.....all in all, I don't think that you'll find that there are actually THAT many professional honey farmers out there anyway. And the proportion of those that bother with the Internet will be pretty negligible.

A fair few with 100+ hives.....and a mere handful with 400+

I have to largely agree with Scutellator on this one.

Bee-Kee-pur, if you don't recognise the professional bee farmers that give advice on the forum then do you want them to wear a funny hat or some other form of discrimination for your convenience?

You will probably find that the number of questions they ask is very limited and the answers to the point.

The terms professional and amateur refer to status and not standard.

Experience has to do with skill and probably a lot of "looks" in a multitude of colonies.

It has nothing to do with trying to flog ideologies, and product either blatantly or badly on the forum, which you will notice doesn't make them at all flavour of the week, or maybe it does because they seem to be so often devoured by the membership.

Perhaps you should get in touch with the Bee Farmers' forum and ask if they are thinking of setting up a novices section. They might suggest exactly what needs sectioned once they stop rolling about on the floor laughing at the suggestion.

If i've missed anything, I'm sure that you will let me know.

Oh, and professional bee farmers eat chocolate. :)

PS Remind us later in the year how the business plan of GreatBritishHoney turned out and how much optimism turned out to be smoke.
