In 2010, Norman Lamb, the LD candidate in N Norfolk campaigned with his message that he would keep the tories out. For decades this constituency has been a fight between orange and blue. He was elected, but I challenged him that by being a minister in the condem coalition he had broken faith with voters. He made all sorts of excuses, but at the next GE his tribe lost some 28000 votes so the blues got in. Plenty of statements of regret from the LDs, but, I suspect the main reason their candidate was voted in at the last GE was the record of the last blue governments - particularly the lettuce PM who was MP in a nearby constituency. FPTP means a binary choice, here. Is a vote that expresses the preference of "anyone but that lot" positive democracy?
