Hi all, I've been asked to supply honey to a local farm food shop, they have asked what I nee to be paid and what their sell price should be.

As I don't know what markup a shop would usually apply I do not know what to advise.

expected 10-20 jars per week, whats the going rate?
The local association charge £5 p lb at the local events

25% or less goes to them I would of thought, less the better. This is what a local sandwich supplier applies, as I asked them being a customer of mine and wanting the same info as you.

I charge shop outlets £4.50 going up to £4.80 this year and they have sold between £6.50-90 and that's Hertfordshire

Independent farm shop types will usually put on around 30%

£5 a pound is too low - I'm pretty sure my local association was selling a pound of honey for £6 at the Royal Cornwall Show.

I sell 8oz jars of honey to my local butcher for £4 and he sells for £5.

CVB

50 to 60 percent mark-up for the outlets that sell mine.

It winds me up why should a shop just for stocking a jar make 60%, Have a look in the cash & carry the average POR is 20/25% the only big margin product are energy drinks which average 55%. I had this with a customer recently who wanted to drop the price by 50p a jar, Stood my ground and refused and they came back after a few weeks. A lot of the packers are now paying a good price because the public are waking up to UK honey being a blend from non EU origin.

That confirms what I said ;) the people who told me have been supplier for a long time so should know there stuff. But at the end of the day it's up to the person what they wish to sell at! Just think Mr Sugar lol
