I am thinking 4 or 5.

Will take up time. We all know how addictive they can be!

I have my two hives less than a mile away and I am a bit scared to move them

I have 1 in my garden at present - (had 3 plus a nuc over winter). They are in an area about 8' x 10' surrounded on 3 sides by a 7' fence with debris netting on it and my bee shed. They come out of the hive climb over the fence and disappear. All my neighbours know I have them (they buy my honey) but say they have never been bothered by them. When I first got them 4 yrs ago I lost a swarm which sat on the neighbours pear tree until they realised the clipped queen was no longer with them before tripping back.
I have never had a problem or complaint but as everyone has said it's best to plan for the worst case and have somewhere to take them in an emergency.
The house is an ex local authority property situated in a small estate in a village. So it is possible to keep them in small gardens if you are careful.
