Adding Supers?

Hello

Would anyone add a super at this time of year to encourage the bees to take their stores into the super and draw it out, there by freeing up space in the brood box to get more bees to over winter?

We have a hive which has a very prolific queen and she has already filled up 8frames with brood and the rest is food (in a national brood box). Just worried she has not got enough room to lay and they will swarm.

She has already swarmed once from a nuc box when we first got them, due to lack of space (completely our fault). That was on the 26/6/11.

With 8 frames of brood i would certainly add the super. if nothing else, you might at least get a few frames drawn out for next season! and hopefully prevent another swarm.

Hmm, not really the case!, could do more harm than good if a new or weak colony.
