Setting that aside, as PH says, from a practical point of view the landing board is a nuisance, not only because its lack saves space in a trailer,.

This old turkey still keeps on being trotted out. For the vast majority of beekeepers, the presence of a landing board makes no difference to the number of hives they can transport. I can move 6 hives with landing boards and If I were to remove them I could still only take 6.........
Not sure which films you have been watching but Br Adam had landing boards like those below , a picture of his Buckfast Apiary. The logic is if the clipped queens swarmed she could find her way back into the hive and not be wasted.....Not sure he had these on every single one of his hive.

The boards in your pic are the same temporary boards described in Phil Chandler's video of a Br Adam floor. They hook into the front of the floor at either end. The Br Adam video shows them in the act of being fitted at the heather; must be seasonal use only. Did he really keep such swarmy bees that the expense of a board on each hive was justified?

Glad to see that the Br Adam floor itself and the new Abelo poly floor jut out the same minimal amount. :)
