Does anyone use castellation spacers in an Abelo National Poly super? If so what size do you use?

The abelo boxes already have the frame runners built in if you where to use castellations you would have to cut the plastic runners out..a bit pointless imo..

No you wouldn't. There is space for the frame lugs above the integral plastic frame runner.
The problem would be finding or modifying a national wooden or wbc super castellation to fit the internal dimension of the abelo super.
Same issues with the swienty super, the wbc super internal dimension is close though.

Unless you are heaving the supers about the frames, once positioned, won't move. It's easy enough to have a couple of gauge pieces to set the empty frames apart and unless you have Herculean bees the frames wiĺ be where you left them at next inspection.

They don't fit and neither do ten combs previously drawn on ten slot castellations.
Space them by eye.

This would be fine until moving them, then it would cause carnage.
Iirc I spaced mine with alternate wide and narrow plastic ends with one frame of foundation between two wide ends to make everything tight for transport.

Quite agree.
I've seen how you drive ;) :D

Ive been looking at this as an option for my swienty supers.

The 11's cut down to 10 frames give a perfect fit and they just slot into the existing runners.

Thinking of expanding on this as I have quite a few swienty supers it seems to give a couple of mm extra over the hoffman spacing which should make extracting a bit easier.

Any reason not go ahead?

The spacing is pretty much perfect within the irregular internal dimensions of the box

That looks good.
How are you fixing the spacer to the box? Is it just slotted in behind the runner?
I've tried nailing them in the past to the old style swienty super and it wasn't very durable.

Yes.

Cut down 11 frame castellations to size. Which give you 10 frames with a bee space either side.

They just slot right in behind the runners to the perfect depth.

It must have been designed like that as it does seem a perfect fit, with zero wobble.

Do you paint the top of the frames?
Yes. These are spray painted black as they are destined for cut comb with thin, unwired foundation.

They will never see the inside of an extractor.

For what it's worth...thin unwired is all I used... it goes in the extractor fine. Means I can do cut comb or extract with any of my frames.

Really? That's good to know

it's so much cheaper!

If I was really living up to the Yorkshire stereotype it would be starter strips only :)
I find the type of extractor motor is the biggest destroyer of super frames....if you go too fast too soon you can blow any frames....particularly the ones where you forgot to uncap one side (have several t-shirts for this one).
Current 10 speed extractor gets to 6 before it starts to vibrate and alerts me to the operator error...
