Sorry itma, it's not about what is legal, it's about respecting the rights of others to enjoy their gardens and live their lives without bees causing them a problem. I love keeping bees, but I will not do it again until I can keep them where they will not be a problem or potential problem.:)

Simple answer- keep 3 or 4 hives (or lots more); catch swarms or A\S and keep in nucs, work out which hive\nuc has grumpy bees, kill offending queen and unite accordingly. IT'S CALLED BEEKEEPING.:) It sorted the insanity out of our Carniolan cross nut jobs and we ended up with fast breeding...

It's fine making glib remarks about accidents happening, but when your bees put somebody in hospital with anaphylactic shock (like mine did) you might take things a little more seriously. Then again some people consider it is their right to keep bees regardless of the consequences to others!

I have only ever used thymol and culled drone brood, and never lost a colony. :)

:iagree: Trust me it will go horribly wrong as I found out on our allotment site. Bees and the public do not mix, your neighbours have the right to enjoy their gardens without having bees imposed on them.

I would not merge and risk the host colony. Sorry but IMHO you will waste your time and money on trying to save them. I have got very small colonies through winter (2 frames) in a reduced and insulated national. The bees were in good shape, the winters were mild, I was constantly feeding them...

Find a nice flat surface and a joiners try square. use flat surface to make sure that the frames are not twisted. Use try square to make sure frames are rectangular. Simples:)
