Looks like a roll of damp course to me

As above, for damp proofing maybe, for heat retention an absolute waste of time. You could try combing it with an insulating liner such as ceramic fibre but take note my signature. If such a product doesn’t already exist it probably should.

As about much use as a plastic mac... literally they keep the wind and rain out thats it. Better than nothing. but you can do much better

I was daft enough to buy a roll of this stuff, expecting it to have some sort of insulation properties, but as previous poster stated it is basically just a length of damp course plastic.

I have poly and cedar hives - both work fine over the winter if you simply put an empty super on top containing some form of insulation. I use a couple of old towels with a foam layer on top of them - then put the roof on top of that. No need to go adding anything around the brood boxes like that stuff.

I've only had one winter.

Empty super on top with a thick block of cellox insulation inside.

Made a cube out of the cellox for around the outside held in place with a bungee cord and some tape.

All fine, will do the same this year.
