Windows 8/MS Office Question

If someone is running Windows 8 I am led to believe that older versions of MS Office will not work on it. Would anyone be kind enough to provide more advice on this matter? I am hoping to load MS Office onto a Windows 8 computer using old fashioned disc and not download.

Yeah 97 won't work, anything from 2007 should be fine.

This free opensource office package should suffice for your needs.
Unless your existing MS files contain advanced macros and/or VB, they should be fully compatible.

I use windows 8 and office 2007 works fine on it...

Open Office is still out there, http://www.openoffice.org/, supported by Apache or if you have a google account their on line software is ok for most things.
