White semi solid at the base of an empty QC

To change a Queen I'd added a frame from another hive with a fine looking QC on it. Some days after it would have/should have emerged I had a quick peep to check it hadn't been torn down. The cell was intact and looked fine, the cap removed, not present but removed, rough edges around the opening. There was something white at the base (upper, broad end) of the cell and so I twisted the empty QC off the frame. On examining this white substance I think it's probably semi solidified royal jelly. I've a attached a picture of the cell pre and post dissecting it. In the dissected pic you can see where I've pushed a knife into the white stuff and found it semi solid. Is it normal that there's a lump of royal jelly left behind?

Yes. It means the queen was well fed. So much so that she couldn’t eat it all

Looks fine to me and with that nicely chewed cap your pretty sure she emerged just fine. Ian

Just needs some fine weather like today for mating.
I have one or two ready for mating, noticed the weather for the next 8 days. It's not looking very spectacular with the main focus on precipitation.
