I'm just curious; I see a lot of bait-boxes with circular holes rather than a slot, although all-kinds are around. Is this purely because it's easy to make, or is there some thought that the scouts like it that way?
Happy to also hear from anyone who has anything to say about the size, shape and number pf entrances on a hive in general if it's something that a newbee wouldn't garner from the usual guides and courses. I am aware that we need to discourage mice, in winter especially, wide enough that they can access it during busy times, small enough that they can defend it against robbers, wide enough that they can cool it, small enough that they can keep warm. I assume these things are arguably achieved by most commercial hive designs already. Anything beyond that is of interest.
