This is a poll to determine which hive tool is most popular
If you use both hive tools pick your favourite
If you feel you have no preference in hive tools pick both
If your hive tool is almost the same as one of the two options but has something else(e.g. a serrated hook on the end) as well pick other

Quality is more important, IMO. I always have a spare handy and sometimes I have found another one (or even two) I have misplaced some time before. Both types have advantages and both will do the job.

I doubt the 'most popular' will sway many from their personal preference, if they have one.

:iagree:
Depends which comes to hand first. Also some may be using a frame grip with scraper.

Not sure of your naming here?

Isn't "J" tool the traditional UK Hive tool?

My preference is for what I've always called "American"???

so which one is the American Hive tool, i am still not sure? Mirroring Martin L's post

The one that started life as a paint scraper with a nail pulling hole in the shaft - looks a bit like a flat jemmy

I prefer the J tool - specifically the Thornes one which is a bit smaller and fits so well in the hand you can almost forget it's there

You might think that Thor's hammer "Mjolnir" is impressive, but when a beekeeper has a hive tool in his/her hands, their invincible!

Same as ericA, mini 'j' tool - fit nicely in the hand and even more importantly don't fall out of my beesuit pocket like the longer version has a tendency to do!
