What did you do in the Apiary today?

Managed to insert in a QC into a Keiler min nuc - and leave the bottom entrance open overnight Monday. So all bees absconded leaving the QC on its own for 12 hours overnight. When I saw what had happened on Tuesday am, put QC into a Q- nuc. Checked today and she had emerged.

Did various inspections. One queen appears a dud ..still on 4 frames since March. Time to requeen.. Many other hives have no eggs or uncapped brood as queens were off lay due to the terrible weather. Last 3 days have been better so they may start laying again..

Searched in vain (yet again) for Q that is clearly laying as a lovely group of eggs seen, as well as BIAS.

Caught a good sized primary swarm of very black bees in a small tree right outside my own front door but not from one of my hives, running out of space now.

Got stung checking a feeder with no suit on. :)

Got gear together to move one hive and two nucs to the out apiary.

TV cameras all afternoon again - this time for S4C. Bees have been going like the clappers since before 7am this morning, they're not even bothering to do anything apart from piling in nectar - all hives literally dripping with the stuff, even a gentle shake of the frames has it flying out all over the place.

Moved two swarm nucs and one hive to my new out apiary.

The one double brood box poly nuc I have there is going great guns so looks to be loads of forage available.

So now I need more poly supers, another hive and frames to match.

Not a cheap hobby is beekeeping . . . . . . . .

ANOTHER flow day. That's three in a row! And there's fragrance under the lime trees (so good to smell) but no bees on them; probably on the last of the blackberry. Nearly caught a second swarm (lots of scouts) but they went somewhere else. I disturbed some of them who were looking at the possibility of enlarging the entrance so probably my fault. Oh well; a fly...

Inspected one hive this am: no queen and lots of just started QCs - which I pulled down.
Swarmed this pm into hawthorn tree in field (I was cell punching so did not see where it went.)
Into two boxes and lots of stings - ill tempered lot..Cows were amused.

Sitting waiting for them to join the queen either:= 1> in box 1, or 2> in box 2 or 3> on the tree again..

Can't believe my luck. I put a bait hive up 4 days ago just for a bit of fun, not really expecting much and today a swarm moved in! Quite a big one too. I lost my bees last year so it is nice to have some again. I had a job interview today as well so hopefully this is a good luck sign

Arrived home from shopping to be told there was a huge swarm in the hedge of the far paddock. Turned out it really was huge. I tried dumping it into a 6 frame Paynes poly nuc but they were such a tight fit I changed to a full size National brood box with 11 frames of foundation. Leaving them to settle in and hoping they like their new home.

Another call to a swarm, not too bad to collect thats 4 in less than a week. Going to start uniting them to keep hive numbers down.

Fantastic!! Welcome back!!

Thanks. Problem is, they are in top of my garage so I will have to leave them to settle and then put them on a friend's allotment for a couple of weeks and then bring them back to put in a more suitable position.

There's do seem to be an awful lot of swarms about.

I've seen two fly over, one huge and had one take up residence in a empty Nuc I had left outside the shed for cleaning when I was away for a week.

Then another turned up in a little tree right outside my front door and I collected really easily.

Some guys in our BKA have completely run out of space to house them . . . . . .

Not a sniff of a swarm around here! bait hives have been out since April.

Plenty of interest.

Only 1 cast swarm all year
