I set up a poly Nuc with double brood box and feeder and transferred a pretty large swarm from five frames in a six frame Nuc with lots of bees hanging under the top cover.

Lots of bees in the roof of the Nuc too didn't want to be shook out so set it in the ground with the top lip level with the entrance and gently smoked them from the bottom.

Walked up like little angels.

Quite a few hanging about not doing much on the Nuc top but had to make a move so hopefully they will find their way in before nightfall.

One got me on the shoulder through the suit and a tee shirt . . . . . . :-/

Today (18/6) I inspected a swarm I lured to a bait hive on 21 May, found it has already got 7 frames of BIAS, Q is looking good, so marked her. Think I,ll have to give her some more space, she is in a 12 frame National brood. this is the first attempt and success at swarm catching. Feel quite pleased because I lost 2 of my 3 hives over the winter.

Sad to hear you lost 2 of your hives

Popped out a couple of frames of the queenless side of my A/S to check they had enough stores. They are ready to burst.

Picture....

Those are emergency cells. Laying queen has died. Where are swarming cells? Or have you broken them?

That would depend on the temperature of the aga. My incubator gives ideal conditions for the developing pupa but they can take a bit of variation (they would in the hive anyway). You might be lucky....nothing ventured, nothing gained, eh?
If she does emerge, be sure to give her some honey straight away....I hear you have lots to spare ;-)

The honey we took must be worth its weight in gold! 9lbs from 4 and a half frames. The heat is fairly steady. She is on top of a towel on the lid. It will be amazing if she emerges!

Hi Graham I lost the really big hive on the extreme right, the one you had difficulty finding the Qin. they were foraging in force on 8/3 by the 17th they had gone quite, so checked them on 23rd, found the Q with about a cupful of bees still alive. tried but failed to save her, think it may have been the bee paralisis viruse. the other one was weakened by a severe wasp attack.

I went to put a nuc of bees into a brood box I got ready a few weeks ago but weather stopped the job got round to do it today but a swarm as took over what a mess brase comb all over place put 5 frames in ready to put 6 from nuc but all the spare room was full bees was not happy

If that was replying for me, thanks. I may or may not have used the ignore button.

Lime flow started here, not some evident in supers ( although lime flow is slim at my place anyway). But increased pollen inflow.
In brood box, all brood. Above qe food.. I am putting down at 1st and 10th place food frames and lifting up sealed brood.. As one much wiser than me said, it isn't the same to have food in the attic or in the kitchen..

The huge lime tree across the road from my hives had lots of my bees in it. Was able to watch them flying straight from tree to hive as the distance is so short.

Looking forward to lime honey.

Up at sparrow's fahrt to move the Q+ part of a unite into place, nice to see, even early morning with mist and drizzle that some bees were flying and bringing back pollen. Even damper and drearier when I went up to Carreg to take QC's down in two Demarree's but glad I went up there as it was obvious two hives were Low water springs on stores - so a quick feed put on to keep them going.

I've just scanned the last couple of pages of comment on the emergency cells picture and I'm not sure I followed it right but let me say ...

Mid August last year I had a queenless colony as a result of repeated casts and I've no idea why even the last queen vacated but there you go. Anyway. I gave them a frame with plenty of eggs from their mother - I had hived the primary swarm successfully. They made four good emergency cells all in the patches where I had noted their were eggs and not larvae. I cut out all but one, leaving of the two larger ones the one that seemed to be getting most attention even though all four that day were sealed. I saw no new brood until late September and feared the colony was too small to survive the winter but let's try it. ...

Now ... She is the most prolific lay-er I have had. She swarmed and has been hived and I'm keeping them as two now, and her second home is a National 'deep' brood which they had drawn all frames in 12 days, and supers on both are really heavy.

So much for emergency queens never coming to anything!
