It's the same here it wouldn't be a winter without snow . Every 1000 ft you climb you lose 3 degrees in temp the temp can be 5 degrees in the valley and 0 at home .

I once set off from Burnley Lancashire to Howarth across the moors . Weather fine at the Burnley end .
Soon deteriorated over the tops !

Dodged rain and showers to get the supers off the furthest apiraries and clearer boards on the nearest.
Need a bigger truck - either that or put my name in the raffle for one of these honey extracting pantechnicons that Welsh government are apparently doling out like Rolf Harris with a packet of spangles at school sports day.

A pantechnicon and some staff. Does it come with staff?

apparently it's like the Hindu temple Juggernaut - people just turn up to follow it and give of their time and effort freely for 'the cause' :D

Had a phone call from the farmer today, one of my hives had fallen over from the weight of the honey. Got down to the apiary, 2 hives had fallen off their double stand. In my speed to move hives to the apiary, I had forgotten to place the stand on paving slabs. One hive had a strap around it and was still together, the other had a brick on top and had covered a wider area, small bit of robbing but otherwise OK for yesterday's rain. Now more secure and 40 lb of honey to remove from one hive. Not too wet inside the hives. Temporarily fixed the sheep fence which had pulled apart.

Watched the rain today... not allot of flying. Better tomorrow so they will be out again. Rain should help the ivy along.

Clearer boards on the hives in the garden and so extracting tomorrow evening.

Raining yesterday but removed two cleared supers, replaced clearers on other hives and counted supers left to extract.. and did rough sums.. After leaving one full super on each of my 8 full hives and extracting the rest , I will have over 450lbs.. Last year - a bad summer - was 165lbs. ( I would have over 600lbs if I extracted all supers)

Extracted two supers .

I think I have just enough buckets and am tired of lifting and extracting..
Who said beekeeping was restful? :sunning:

Sat in the garden on and of all day monitoring these two for wasps robbing them.. they are newly made Nucs put together on Saturday at my original apiary site but i had to move them as they where getting hammered of my other strong colonies..they are doing fine now and both Queens are out of there cages and accepted by the look of things.. i will give them another week when hopefully the frames of brood in they have emerged and give the two of them a blast with some disco smoke to fettle any varroa.

Removed rapid feeder of cappings from Hive 1 and left top super on for the Winter. Hive 3 - intended to remove super of extracted/cleaned frames, but found box heaving with bees and underside of crown board thick with bees. Put clearer board on to remove the super tomorrow, but came away wondering if the queen was in the super as QX was removed when the super was taken for extraction. If so I might find them all still there tomorrow! I'm using a rhombus clearer. My problem is I can't get to them until around 7:00pm and I reckon they're up top getting ready for the night by then - which could be why the box was so full?

Sometimes I get frustrated with my lack of experience.

Removed the four supers from my garden hives for extraction to find, two supers; 1 full the other part filled have to go back on. Both uncapped and moisture content >20%. Aaarrggh!!!!

Laying worker
It’s common

Tell me about it.. a fellow member (not seen on here for a while) once said to me it is rare to get a laying worker colony.. i was onto my third one this year in anticipation waiting for a virgin would be mated or not .. it never happened and so my experiences carry on..

Saw one of my 2018 queens for the first time today large black beauty. Did not mark her as too busy preparing hives for MAQS going on Thursday, Friday. Thought I mark them afterwards in case I lose some. Will bank my two year old as she will probably go otherwise!
