Used air freshener for the first time to unite two nucs today, much easier than newspaper!

spent most of my time supering then driving back and for with more kit as most hives need two supers at a time - filling one to the brim in well under a week (lucky I had to open one earlier than usual for some other reason) at one apiary two nucs which, just over a week ago I confirmed queen laying with a bit of sealed worker brood - now packed to the gunnels with brood and stores and requiring hiving PDQ, so late evening rush around after the council meeting to close up and load the nucs ready to move to their new apiary and hives in the morning.
most hives now have at least four supers - some more.
Driving past the Gelli apiary on the way home, saw these little beggars flowering in the ruins of the old smithy, the bramble is nowhere near over yet! We haven't had a decent balsam flow in years - I wonder......

Checked an out apiary today
Almost stepped on a little clump of bees in the grass
Checked it out and found a beaut of a queen surrounded by workers
Guessed she had come up short on her landing on the way back from a mating flight
Picked her up and placed her on landing board of last hive to be A/sd and she walked in unchallenged, hopefully I picked the right one

I had that happen a couple of weeks ago - but it happened twice and on closer inspection she had a damaged wing and obviously didn't actually make it out on her mating flight. The second time she got squished and I united the colony.

Removed mine from the supers, bees using them as extra entrance and helping ventilation in these unusual hot conditions.

I thought about removing them, but then i thought this hot weather is not over there normal hive temperature, definitely not removing the super ones though, i can not be done with the weaker not weak colonies getting raided from a stronger colony..

They won't rob when there is a flow on.
Probably flies against current forum insulation opinions but in these current temps I think it's beneficial to provide a draft. Mine are loving it.

I will see how it pan's out Von had to put a jumper on two day's ago with the Easterly wind, today it has been scorchy hoo ..we will see..;)

Yesterday tried inspecting at 2.30pm - After 5 hives, had to give up - wringing through (no stamina!)..
This am finished climbing on ladders to inspect my second largest hive to put clearer board on , Found eggs from latest superscedure queen in same hive but could I find Q? Nope.

Lime flowers just starting to open, so planning another extraction Saturday pm.. to free up some supers...(Mrs madasafish who labels jars is started to complain about the volume of work so early in the season)

Achieved aim of inspecting in T shirt and veil. No shorts tho'.. jeans.. I'm too scared...

Shorts and no shirt inspections for me...under an ventilated Ozarmour suit.It doesn't stop you perspiring in these temps but if makes a huge difference.

My insulated ex pigg sheds are beautifully cool inside during this hot weather. Insulation works both ways. :)

Installed AT10 and ran the bees in. These were a shook swarm, and the brood were redistributed to other colonies in the apiary. The marked queen went in quickly and the rest followed
Many thanks to the Beekeeper who volunteered the colony and space for experiment.
That makes 10 deployed and 9 occupied.

I feel cooler as soon as i put the jacket on... with it being white it reflects and the breeze comes through lovely.. i have not resorted to wearing my speedos yet when inspecting...:spy:
