Anyone know what this wee beastie is I found on the OMF tray the other day?

I hope it isnt a wax moth, sadly it isnt an earwig lavae we have them too... we have seen one or three of these odd beasties and removed them, but there is no sign of wax moth leavings. Is it slightly velvety looking? We have seen no comb damage and they are always outside the hive ie in the roof or above crown boards not yet seen one in a hive... uh oh!!

There were certainly enough Harlequin ladybirds to be found around hives late last year.

Can't tell as the photo's a bit blurry, but looks a bit hairy for a ladybird. Can you give more details- size, number of legs, number of prolegs etc? If not within the hive, quite likely some harmless butterfly or moth looking for winter shelter.

Yep, sorry about the photo it was snapped with the mobile, the beasie was about an inch long mid brown and 'soft' in appearance rather than having a hard shell.

As long as it's not wax moth larvae i'm happy, and if I see any more I'll get the other camera out.

I can't believe I gave a microscope with a PC connection away to my kids school before I started with bees :banghead:
