just been on the site put my card details in twice and each time it came back "fatal error" just hope it hasnt cost me

Or you might get double the quantity ordered!
Twice the wasp control power!

I got that.
Nothing would have been charged until you put security code in.
Went to Amazon instead.

However, I have let them know there is a problem with the website

Had the same issue this afternoon and sent a note illustrating the error. Had a quick reply back that they were chasing up the IT supplier as the issue seemed to be that side. Tried again earlier this evening an it all went through ok.

Getting them via Amazon looked as if it'd work about 30% more expensive.

£ 1.00 more from green gardener via Amazon. I'm an impatient so and so; husband's always chiding me!
Anyway. Evening visit to apiary revealed a tumbled trap. No harm done, no liquid spilt and all secured now. Five or six wasps inside already...........so it begins :(

Erica. I think you're comparing the refill chamber on Amazon with the full trap on waspbane site. For the full kit amazon include vat and offer free p&p.Their price is £32.50. or if you include vat plus p&p it's £25.39 from WB. Seems your husband is right to chide you!

The reason I know this is I just had to buy one. Found a cheeky wasp (dead) in my awaiting matin nuc. Grrr I bought mine from WB direct.
Btw their website is still playing up so I rang them and ordered mine.

I lost a nuc to wasps...and it had more bees than the nucs I saw at yours Obee1. Perhaps a good idea to pinch some emerging brood for both those nucs ...if you have got wasps sniffing about.....once they get in ...scouts bring loads of wasps and overcome the small nucs. And I had the entrance reduced too. Since I put up my traps...I have only caught a few wasps but they must have been scouts as only a few seen since.

:iagree:I think that is Karol's U.S.P.

Fair play to the man, he's put his pennies up and gone for it.

P.S. :thanks:To Admin / HM for allowing this thread to run. The man in question stays out of it until he's got useful input re. wasps. I think happy users are doing the selling for him.

You're right then wrong!!!! :nono::nono:

He very approachable via PM but don't ever get him on the phone...His passion and knowledge will leave you listening for an hour or more....actually I don't mean that, Karol. You are a star!

...that a long, narrow entrance, such as a piece of tubing, gives your bees a good defense, as the wasp has to get past bee after bee and can't sneak by...

Is there any rule of thumb for how long a narrow entrance needs to be? Presumably 12" would be better than 2" if your just relying on the number of bees the wasp would come across head-to-head in a constricted space, or is there an upper limit whereby the bees themselves wouldn't bother crawling through to get to the hive during normal foraging?

Presumably there's little difference in the restriction is poking out from the hive or projecting under the frames within the hive.

Can anyone tell me (Karol) if the waspbane works for hornets. I have set up a number of traps (late) this year to deal with asian hornets (I'm in France), but I know I need to set some traps early next year & fancy giving these a go. If I order them now I can get them bought out to France ready for spring.

My theory is as follows.

Good summer last year. Bees and wasps all happy.
Good autumn. Bees and wasps all happy
Mild winter. High survival rate of queen wasps
Reasonable spring. Big wasp build up (in secret)
Bad summer. Hungry wasps
Autumn Wasps start raiding.

in the wild 150mm would be "average".
honeybees seem to be able to work out long convoluted entrances, so long as there arent unexpected distractions of light or smells

Bad wasp problem here

I have a bad problem here in the back of beyond, after witnessing many attempts by wasp's trying to gain entry to my hive, i thought enough is enough after many fight's on the landing board with bees and wasp's, it made me make a do it yourself trap, i used a 2ltr pop bottle with the lid cut of and put inside upside down, i then poured half a can of lager in there.

My hive is attracting wasp's so whatever i have done makes no difference in attracting more, i have placed the trap around 1.5 yrd's behind the entrance where the wasp's constantly try to find a hole or unguarded entrance.

They even go in a gap at the back under the open mesh floor inspection board but i'm onto them.. lol .

I put this trap in place 2 day's ago and it's filling up quickly , i do however feel guilty about the Moth..
