I think I jumped the gun and marked a virgin with a yellow smudge.
Does it matter?
 
Its isnt that wise as although she is easier for us to see, you may not want other flying insects/birds to be able to see her as well when she in on her mating flights. You will notice easily when/if she does not come back though! Done now anyway.

I made the same mistake, fortunately I got away with it, found her a while later outside the hive presumably after a mating flight, she's laying well and hopefully she'll be a good one.

marked one the other day and then noticed an open supercedure cell,checked a week later and she was gone,balled and killed probably.
 
I used to mark them to see if it made any odds... not that I could see.

i mark all my virgins . But then most of mine emerge in an incubator, If i see a virgin on the frame i mark her aslo, but i never handle them. A bird in the hand....
