Just been reading up on artificial swarming and one question remains unanswered. The newly hatched queen will be a virgin queen so when does the mating flight take place ?

When she feels up to it - anything up to 3 weeks if she is reluctant but normally 3- 4 days after emerging.

You couldn't have got very far with your reading then.

As drstitson. Just add 'weather dependent' to the first.

Some don't get out & become drone layers, another problem.
As time goes on you will find that bees don't read the same book as you and have different ideas.

Normally hatched queen makes mating flights at the age of 7 days and it starts to lay as 10 days old....Realistic values

Swarming queeen is about 2 days old in its queen cell before it emerge from cell. It makes mating flight sooner. Bad weathers may delay swarming and a swarm may have even 5 virgins ( I have met)

An AS queen cell acts like a normal queen cell. It emerges and start to break other queen cells. In those AS which are going still to swarm, virginss are inside cells as long as the after swarm leaves with first emerged virgin.

3 days old mating is not possible. 5 days is possible to the swarm virgin which is ready to fly age in the queen cell.

AS virgin, when to expect it to lay? ..not before 10 days old.
