I have spent the part of the afternoon patiently repairing the black plastic facial section of a veil with fishing line. Its only a year old but has simply worn through where it has been folded. I know I can purchase a replacement and will do so. I am wondering if it is still possible to source the old fashioned wire mesh ones or at the very least a more resilient plastic mesh one ?

Any experiences or ideas ?

Sheriff bee farmer vest/hood my favourite.

Mine too but got a hole like Mx has experienced. Dont think any of the plastics are unbreakable regretfully.

Maybe someone has a genius fix for when they slit...?

Was buying at least two suits a year.

Tried a bbwear. Now my third season, but now sporting a couple of very small tears on the legs. Still no holes in the veil.

My suits take a lot of punishment and will buy bbwear again.

I went through quite a few suits due to the Veils splitting before biting the bullet and buying a Sheriff suit, it's fab! gets a fair beating and still faultless.
it is possible to buy cheaper suits but check the veil material, most are a plastic grid mesh which splits after a while, what you want is woven mesh like they use in the more expensive suits.
I did find one such supplier at Tradex this year, F-Mart, based in Manchester, I bought a Jacket for those quick jobs but I've used it a fair bit and I think it's pretty good, importantly the veil is not the usual plastic mesh but the build quality is pretty good too.

If anyone knows where you can get replacement woven mesh of the right size that would be great.

(I've got a Lyson suit - very pleased with it. I had the original veil replaced due to a hot smoker incident but with the inferior plastic grid mesh, I want to go back to the superior soft veil.)

Try ebay..(i bought some and patched veil with it - worked till I had mine reveiled

Ring bb or sheriff and ask for some replacement mesh at least you get the higher quality

So far I have had just one very helpful response from Old Castle Farm Hives "veils are made from a polyester material and are quite strong...snip.... they wash easily and seem to last quite well and we can repair them." They also offered what amounted to Sale or return. Looks like they will get my business in due course.
