Using glass around a small apiary to make the bees fly up

I rather agree with ratcatcher on this one. Poster just looking for someone to agree.

I, for one (or yet another), will not. I am left wondering how big a window you need to be able to watch them and how tall you are to need a window that high to peer through, how many directions you need to observe them from. Solid structures are more susceptible to high winds - thought about that? Odd window frames will likely look hideous and do nothing for the bees.

I agree with the rest.
Try considering the bees instead of yourself, for a change?

Agreed, you seem to like the idea so will probably go ahead with it even though it will probably cost a lot to make that sort of thing stable when it's windy.

Also
Solid barriers create eddies over the top and would have to take quite a lot of wind pressure.

To reduce turbulence around the hives you would need to put a mesh trellis above the glass panels (same as you see with some fence panels) otherwise you could make things really difficult for your bees. They don't like windy conditions.

A pane of glass leant across the entrance is one of the possibilities to put off robbing wasps, so bees have coped with it.

~Exactly what I was going to say, but I was also going to comment on the big, heavy, fragile sail you are contemplating...
