I split a big colony making swarm preps 11 days ago. Queen was nuc'd and I broke all the queen cells down a week later, then introduced a frame of larvae from the old queen. Today I went back in to check the queen cells they have made and plan to remove them all on Tuesday and reunite the old queen. Now do I have to do a paper unite or just put her small colony on top of the supers? Never had a colony try to swarm so late and wanted to keep them together.

Richard Noel reunites his cell building colonies after 4 days, without having to do a paper unite from his video on YouTube. Any longer than that and it will have to be a paper unite. Silent robbing would have stopped by now and they are separate entities.

4 days is too short. AS in Swarming fever and cell building are very different.
But 11 days is long enough to reviele out, is the brood hive in swarming fever.

Could you get a way with uniting with just smoke I've done this this season when combining smaller colonys.?

Yes. They have had two rounds of queen cells to make so by the time the queen goes back it will be two weeks.

I do not understand what is happening there.
Speaking about 4 days or 2 weeks and 2 rounds of queen cells? Perhaps the owner does not know what he is doing, and advisors do not know either.

Very difficult such knot.

I use to unite hives without paper and without smoke.

To unit a nuc and a big hive does not succeed. The big hive kills all nuc bees. But you can put a.mesh beween the nuc and the big hive, and bees will have same odor in 2 days.

Thank you. I am learning every day in this course. Amazing.
The idea of the OP is to reintroduce the old queen back to the original hive and it was a question about timing, I hope that helps. But you have already answered the question with the placement of a screened board, instead of paper, both work.

Finny
Not difficult
I’m repatriating a queen who has been away from her original colony for 2 weeks.

There is none. I simply wanted to know if you could just unite them with no precautions or use newspaper. I have my answer. Newspaper and no short cuts

I did this earlier on this season. I paper united the nuc with the queen back to the original colony. When I next checked there was no sign of the marked queen.
