Mmmm, your starter looks like it probably had a repeated letter as there are very few words that start with those 3.... I'd always assume that was a bit of a risk though maybe you used the "in the cards" one that looked for a repeat of a very common letter.

TARES or RATES or STARE or TEARS or STEAR ;Same letters every time, but no doubles.

Then , depending on what comes back, I might guess or try GUILD.


I used to just do RATES, GUILD, PHONY, but never got a 2 or a 3 !

I got a 1 once on April 1st and thought it was a joke!

Ahh, must have been TARES. My wide dictionary misses that out though it has 14 junk (to me) words like tarea, tarin, tarsi, tarve which I could not imagine anyone ever playing... So it is not as all inclusive as I thought. Good old biblical reference.
A good narrow-them-down word but it is not among the possible answers of Wordle (as it was last time I looked!)

I don't get your point really, as I don't expect to guess the answer first time. And, if I use TARES, I am not looking for answers that start with TAR at all. I am just testing for those letters in the answer. A green for the T, an orange for the E, a grey for the R or whatever are all clues to the answer.
