as with a lot of posts about lots of funny activity ie swarming starvation
can the more experienced beekeepers tell us if they think things are unusual this year more than others
and whats your take on things

I had a colony starve in June. That has never happened before to me. Big colony. Bad weather. :(
 
Bees swarm, it's what they do naturally.

Bees rarely starve if feral, usually it's managed bees that starve when someone has taken all or most of their stores going into bad patch - weather or lack of forage or when they have taken too much too late going into winter.
