New session of celebrations in Galicia, regardless of the Easter celebrations. This Palm Sunday weekend we have several unavoidable appointments:
"Amandi wine festival" in Sober. New opportunity to taste the wine harvest from the different wineries of the "DO Ribera Sacra".
"Queixo Festival of San Simon da Costa" in Villalba. Tasting of a semi-cured cow's cheese with a light smoke.
"Oyster Festival" in Arcade. Oyster tasting, one of the many bivalves that are collected on our coast, thanks to the upwelling of nutrients brought by the Gulf Stream.

Well you certainly take your religion seriously.
Catholics believe that animals have no souls. I suppose that's why animals are tortured in the name of sport.

Nothing is further from the truth, in fact I have not promoted any Catholic celebration, another thing is that in Galicia we take advantage of the holiday to organize our activities, eating or having a fun party.
By the way, that some events coincide with Catholic holidays is causal because the religion took advantage of the pagan festivities to facilitate its expansion.

Today I went to the local market.
I brought with me 2 products:
1. Honey wafers.
2. "Requeixo" which would be something similar to Bulgarian kefir, a creamy and acid fresh cheese.
Well, tomorrow and Saturday the thirtieth edition of the "Festa do Requeixo e do mel" will take place in As Neves.

New weekend and in Galicia we are celebrating. Double portion:
In Arbo the festival of the lamprey is celebrated. This fish can be tasted in its various forms of cooking, being stewed in its blood and accompanied by white rice typical. It can be accompanied by local wines.
In Rivadavia, the "O Ribeiro" wine festival is celebrated, one of the denominations of origin for wine that we have.

Although gastronomic festivals are in the majority in Galicia, we are also given to feeding the mind with culture. Just as the Cannes film festival is held on the Costa Azul, the Galician short film counter-festival takes place in an irreducible Galician village, coinciding with the French event. Thus, from May 16 to 20, the Cans Festival will take place in its twentieth edition.
In addition, May 17 is a regional holiday because we celebrate the day of Galician Letters. This edition (60) is dedicated to the intellectual, writer and founder of the publishing house Galaxia Francisco Fernández del Riego. Closing the cycle because he was one of those who promoted the institutionality of this day.

and quite a few 'specials' hanging around watching and waving flags
I was referring to the fact that the usual programming has been replaced by an intense news program with connections to the reporters displaced to London by the event and the cohort of commentators and experts.

Although the exact date is unknown, the cathedral of Lugo boasts a privilege on its main altar and is the permanent exhibition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (cup and host of the Eucharistic ritual). Academics date this privilege around 1400, although in the 12th century there was already a divine adoration in the Lugo cathedral.
In the fateful year of 1669 and before the economic problems of the episcopal college, the civil power represented in the leaders of the seven capitals of the provinces of the Kingdom of Galicia granted an annual income to the lighting of the main altar.
Today the annual commemoration (351) of said solemn act took place with the respective mass, procession and interpretation of the Solenme March of the Old Kingdom of Galicia, not to be confused with the anthem

This way you can better understand the history of our shield.
In the Middle Ages the etymological origin of Galicia is attributed to "calice". The first representations of the Kingdom are with a shield with a variable number of chalices until its standardization in a single one in the 15th century. Now, on the background, crosses began to be included until their number was set at seven (one for each province) in the 18th century.
I attach a photo with the territorial extension, the flag and the shield.

For metal lovers, the "Resurrection Fest" will take place from tomorrow until Sunday in Viveiro.

After the particular procession of the pilgrimage to Santa Marta de Ribarteme comes the height of the festivities in Galicia.
Thus, on the first weekend of August we have:
Albariño wine festival in Cambados.
Viking Pilgrimage in Catoira.
Native pements in Padron, in Arnoia and in Oimbra.
and surely some more are missing. Attached pictures.

In Galicia we have 14 autochthonous varieties of peppers adapted to climatic conditions, although cultivation is usually done in a greenhouse. In general, the Galician varieties do not bite since they lack capsaicin. I usually grow three of them (Herbon, Arnoia and Oimbra).
