I have made up an undrawn super ready to put on the hive and when I looked in it wasn’t quite ready so I stored the super on top of the crown board (holes covered) with roof on top. Just so I don’t have to carry it to the apiary again. Will likely open it up to the hive this weekend.

Is this a good idea?

It's not a bad one! Should be fine. If I think they may need it in between time I sometimes put a crown board with a feeder hole in,(feeder board), between the spare super and the main hive. they don't use the super unless they really need it and then they will move up into it despite the small hole. Better than them not having enough room!

It is a cracking idea and i will be copying it as i am sick of carrying three fresh supers back and forth from the hives when checking if they are fully capped.
