ok

so i bought some of this stuff online as i dont have any old frames to use

Janolia Honey Bee Swarm Attractant Liquid Bait

some weird chinese stuff i think and the description on amazon on how to use it talks of putting it on straw and placing it halfway up the mountain

so....anyone any experience or ideas as to how i translate that for sussex with a couple of old national brood boxes and some poly nucs?

Go to YouTube and type in bait hives, loads on baits and location of boxes

National Brood box ... some old comb... solid floor,,, crown board and roof...2" entrance block

Place at least 1meter from ground... on intersection of ley lines ( if you are into that sort of thing) or somewhere where you have had a swarm before

Sprinkle with a good few drops
£6,80 inc post....100ml

Works for me

Do not use C, winteri... smells the same but is an insect repellent!

thanks folk

have been successful with bait hives before following youtube and such directions....just wastn sre with this liquid stuff in lieu of old comb

i guess i just sprinkle it on and hope for best

Old brood comb is pretty much as good as any attractant, but even old boxes or wax starter strips will give off an aroma when cooking in a box. Just use what you have I will buy a pack of unwired foundation and just cut into thin strips then mix in with 1 old frame

thanks Ian

ive got some old brood comb which is a bit squashed in my wax bucket...i.e. they wouldn't be able to use the cells as squashed but, would it do strapped to a sheet of foundation?

If you mean comb cut out of frame then just chuck a bit in the bottom of the box, if it’s still in the frame then just use, it’s only there for the aroma. If they use it then so be it

If you have a swarm up a tree and the bait box underneath, put a couple of drops of lemon grass oil on the entrance. It attracts them to where you want them to go! Works for me! Well! my bees anyway!!!!!!

No wonder if you are squirting it. Two drops is enough. Lemongrass oil....... Not citronella. Do opposite things. Obvious maybe but seen it done!
