I can see someone destroying swallows nests,

Apart from pushing his ladder away, what can I do?

RSPB but if you dont know who the person is, probably a waste of time..

go take a photo.

Has the incident already been reported to the police?
If your incident needs reporting urgently please contact the police on '101' where you can report crimes that have already taken place. If you have already done this, please provide any details of the officer you spoke with or any reference number you may have been provided with.

A bit of non-threatening education might go a long way...

Have you had a word?
something along the lines of "Do you realise it's illegal to destroy bird's nests?"
or less confrontational, just ask "What's the problem up there?"
Some people are just ignorant of the law or the damage they're doing, or might mistakenly think they're wasp nests.

Unfortunately, he also knows that when he did the same thing @ 5 years ago, Warwick police did nothing!

Any A.L.F. activists want his reg No???

This is against section 1.1.b. (since its against the nest rather than the birds) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. The police are required to act.

1 Protection of wild birds, their nests and eggs.S

(1)Subject to the provisions of this Part, if any person intentionally [F530or recklessly]—

(a)kills, injures or takes any wild bird;

(b)takes, damages [F531, destroys or otherwise interferes with] the nest of any wild bird while that nest is in use or being built; or

Agreed, this needs police intervention and he needs prosecuting - this is just the time when they will be hatching/feeding young.

Get on the blower asap and get the police out sharpish (also take some pics)

furthermore Warwickshire police are apparently keen on wildlife crime but for all incidents, forum members should always contact police (maybe this should be a sticky in the environment section?)

see here for details at national wildlife crime unit;

Wildlife crime desperately needs to be acted upon and taken seriously so please report it whenever you come across it!

Mention that you recieved advice from a large number of people on social media that you should contact them (the police) and can you have status updates as a lot of people are interested in the fate of the birds.

I guess that the person concerned will remove any trace of the nests and it might be difficult to prove anything....therefore pics or film of them doing it is the best way to go.

If you get no reaction from the police, email somebody senior in the police area concerned and write to the newspaper or local radio.........or Bill Oddie

greetings,
it would seem that some people just don't like the little bit of mess the swallows leave behind, we feel honoured when our swallows build, and my better half places a small board on the floor under the nest to catch any droppings,
Any comments Arfermo ???

Its always a good idea to tread carefully with the police ......but....If you need a big stick....go to the top https://www.warwickshire.police.uk/...ce-welcomes-new-Chief-Constable-Martin-Jelley

I'm sure some of the police dont take their job seriously..
My daughter got knocked of her bike by a car..Somebody got reg number.....Waited to hear from police and weeks later nothing heard. I emailed and asked what was happening........they knew nothing about it...... the officer who attended and later went to daughters house hadnt reported it... because reg number was 1 digit out from a car that was of right make and colour and locality..

So the evidence was flawed. Not a hope of the crown prosecution service taking it any further! :hairpull: tin hat :judge:

if there are more than one nest and are under the eaves they are more likely to be house martins, swallows make a saucer shaped nest and martins a full nest with entrance at the top.
this time of year they are nesting and is illegal to remove, if you want to remove then you have to Waite till the birds have finished breeding, inform the police if no response let the rspca or rspb

As a deeply law abiding citizen, I was most surprised when I got told by the police, in writing, that they would not investigate my hit and run accident, as I wasn't hurt.
Despite me having to pay out my excess, and a crime being committed.
In future I will take the law into my own hands!

As for you, I would report it to the RSPB, and RSPCA, at least they will actually do something about it.

Old bill are useless. (Unless you need a civil disturbance breaking up!)

the officer never even reported it at the station as an accident.....there was no record...but once the boss got involved the enquiry was carried out properly.. driver pleaded guilty..

You dont have to stop and exchange details, but you must report it to police with ?? days.

If somebody has seen somebody committing a crime of destroying nests, are they not legally obliged to report it?
