I was advised to put a super with some honey under the brood box for the winter.
When is the best time to remove and put on top.
Not sure I want Brood and a half.

Too many - but not nearly enough

I think you were advised badly
how much honey was in there?
When did you put it there in the first place?
even well into the spring, the last thing they will go is down in the the nadir - unless they are jam packed with stores up top.

I did this a few times in autumn with uncapped (not capped) stores in an effort to get the bees to move the stores up into the brood. It might well be empty by now. Leave it till your first inspection. Doesn't matter if there is brood in it as long as the queen isn't there above the QX
