Hi,

Any good suggestions on suits? I did initially get a cheap one to see me through when I got my nuc however its not very reliable and one of the little beauties got me on the cheek on Sunday....

Don't mind a part suite, doesn't have to be a full one.

Thanks
Clementyne

sheriff or bbwear I use both of these but will be getting a ventilation suit next, most likely armour NZ

Sheriff are fantastic. I really like the suits and more importantly their customer service is second to none. I had a problem with my 2 year old suit... got in touch with them and they sorted it within a few days, great contact throughout. Thoroughly recommend them.

This has done the rounds twice this year to my knowledge and the verdict was if quality not cost is decider then Sherriff and BB wear are the ones to go for.

Have used a full BB suit for about eight years now and still going strong. Good quality and excellent service. They are cheaper than sheriff too.

I've only got a cheap suit at the moment (helping out at association apiary before getting my own bees next year) but I fancy upgrading to Oz Armour next year; I hanker after a nice ventilated suit.

Have heard good things about Sheriff and BB Wear though. Size is a factor for me - need to drop the pounds before I can fit into the nice ones, so had to go cheap to start :icon_204-2: Be interested to follow this and see what you go for in the end.

Plus, you get a discount (20%?) from BBWear if you're a BBKA member - don't know whether Sherriff give discounts. If you get a discount with BB, you don't get the free gloves but if you want them, they give a 50% discount on them. My BBWear suit is now a week old and I'm very pleased with it - far better quality than my 'Made in India' Buzz beesuit, which I bought for £38 when I started 4 years ago, before I knew that I would last the course. My first honey harvest, from last year, paid for the suit!

Any more details on good ventilated suits...fed up of working in a sauna. Due to ineptness I don't have enough suitless colonies, several but not enough to go commando.

I'm still looking myself but I do like the look of the NZ Amour suit. I'm sure someone here has one?

BB do a made to measure service BUT it's an additional £20.

Rather than spend hundreds to repel horrible bees, requeen for half the cost and enjoy beekeeping with docile bees.

It's a no brainer in my view.

Sage advice, but as I have found even with the best intentions you still get the occasional bees from hell and suit is a necessity. In my case I wanted to see what a Carniolan x Local Mongrels was temper wise. I shan't make that mistake in my area ever again. Totally evil, takes me back to the days I kept local mongrels if not worse. These girls are at you the moment you walk into the apiary, inspections are nigh on impossible. Bleeding off some flyers today by moving hive was no fun. Now deciding whether to take them for a long journey and get rid....however if anyone would like a free colony from hell just PM me and they are yours.

I understand what your saying but when your spending hours inspecting colony's is like being in the desert lol. Dripping wet sometimes! I just don't trust any bee there not pets and can sting where and when they feel like it. I'd rather be in a suit but fair play to you brave folk who use nothing or a face veil but it's not for me.

I am not brave. Jacket and wellies for nasty hive.. soon not to be ...Tried veil only once.. Some bees enjoy stinging me...and going where no bee should go:paparazzi:

I have recently purchased an OZ Armour ventilated suit as my old one was really no longer up to the job. All I can say after about 6 weeks relatively heavy use in the heat we have recently experienced, is fantastic and well worth the additional few pounds!!

Thanks for that.
Just ordered one. Fed up of working in a sauna.
Money back if you get stung through one.
