500ml water to 1 kilo of sugar

its simpler to tip sugar into jug, (dry) then into pan, fill jug with boiling water to the same level as sugar was, add to pan/sugar and mix, 1:1 works for any amount of sugar

Boiling water?

With my Scottish roots, I just use warm water from the hot tap. For 1:1 it works perfectly well and saves energy.

(Not much good for 2:1)
