New hive young colony. They are doing fantastically and just added another 2 supers as the queen is laying like mad, they have made lots of capped honey and are very productive. They are making lots of honey and seem to be coming back with lots of pollen attached to their legs and out foraging all the time. However added 2 supers (one below as extra brood) and one honey super above. So they now have 2 supers both filled with new foundation that will need to be drawn out. Should I give them some extra sugar syrup to help them do this (I understand lots of honey/ sugar syrup is equites for them to make wax) or will they just get on with it without?

BTW I out a new frame of foundation in last week and they have drawn in out nearly fully in a week.

Don't feed..... You don't want any sugar in your honey.... They won't differentiate between their honey and syrup so it may get mixed!

If they need supers, it means they have nectar coming in, they don't need sugar syrup - they will use the nectar to draw comb: they will start drawing it and filling it with honey as they go along - if you put sugatr syrup on them to draw comb they will just store most of it, so you will end up with sugar syrup not honey as a harvest

That's nice and clear then, thanks very much. No syrup for you then, girls! Interesting, my local BKKA have advised feeding sugar syrup, but doesn't feel right to me unless they can't get out or exceptionally weak or cold.

If it was a swarm or a new nuc you would feed just to get them drawing comb but not in the circumstances that you have outlined :)

You only feed sugar when they actually need it.

Bees have survived millions of years before humans even evolved. Humans have only kept bees for a relatively few thousands of years, so they have been around a lot longer than we have. Honey regs have only been in existence for decades.

Now, are you a pusher, or happy for the bees to take their time?

and its unlikely that they will need it then. Hence the term "stores"

Thanks everyone; very helpful. Will not be feeding
