I used google lens to identify this species and it reported ‘hornet’! Is that true?
Safe to say what I witnessed is not a hornet? Doesn’t seem to have a red head.This is a European hornet.

We have spiders in our bedrooms specifically for that purposeYip. Definitely a queen wasp. I found one in my attic. I left it alone only to come back and find it in a spiders web being eaten by the fattest spider i've ever seen!

...accidentally released in Tas in '59 and then found on the mainland in '77. Since then we have the record for the world's largest subterranean wasps nest.
