a friend has some solitary bees in holes in a bed in her garden where she wants to plant bulbs. she doesn't want to harm the bees (or get stung). any advice on what to do please. thanks

Plant away, they are very unlikely to sting, and avoiding their singular nests would be impossible

I have a feeling they won't be in there during this time of the year......may need to google that one!

I've got an area favoured by "tawny mining bees" probably because it's well drained and gets good sun.

The bees lay a few eggs about a foot deep which emerge as adults in the Spring. I ignore them and garden as usual, sometimes turning up a few pupa when digging (which the robin enjoys)
.
Never been stung - or any sign of aggression ever, from solitary bees.

They dont stay for long.... Most are incapable of finding the entrance half the time..
