Possibly...5 and a bit...depends on the bees.
When we inspected the hives last Monday....there were quite a few drones in there. Today we saw some of them being dragged out and booted over the edge by workers. The drones flew off in a circle and wizzed back into the hive! What the workers haven't yet sussed....is that there are loads of drones hiding behind the last frame by the wall, in the hives.

Feel a bit sorry for them. Even though most of them are freeloaders. Do any manage to over winter in the hives?

There were a dozen or so that survived in my Long Hive last winter ... mind you there was plenty of stores in there and it was very mild ... bees are survivalists ... if there's enough to go round then perhaps they can see a need for a few boys at the Christmas Party ?

Mine are definitely on the blacklist then as although the stores are adequate for now....there is lots of space still to fill...so I'm afraid they are likely to chucked out....it will be an all girls Xmas party for my hives!
